about

DAVE JOHNSON 1957-2009

Dave, guitarist with Shapeshifter, recorded a large body of solo music over many years right up to his death from cancer in March 2009.

This album was the very last he was able to record before his health had declined to the point where he no longer had the strength to hold his guitar. His very last time was his final gig with Shapeshifter on 31st January 2009, just five weeks before his death. The phrase "playing like it's your last time" seemed fitting as he truly did: despite having to sit down and battling through great pain, he played with an intensity to rival the greatest of his performances up to that point. Footage of this memorable gig can be seen here: www.youtube.com/user/synoneiro#grid/user/EC67388F7AB460C2

The poignant opening track was used at his funeral to accompany the flower-giving ceremony, where everyone placed a rose upon his coffin. An unforgettably moving few minutes in time. There is some very powerful music to be found throughout this album, occasionally offset with an overlaid eccentricity all his own. It makes for a strong goodbye as his last recorded work.

Dave had no interest in money and in both his music and his paintings he created for nothing more and nothing less than the pure desire to create. In concordance with the wishes of his widow Christine, all proceeds from the online sale of his music will be donated to LOROS, the charity who did everything they could to make his final months as bearable as possible.
