DAVE JOHNSON 1957-2009

Dave, guitarist with Shapeshifter, recorded a large body of solo music over many years right up to his death from cancer in March 2009.

This album was one of his last recording projects. He had a long interest in numerology and in particular the significance of the number 8 which featured boldly on his guitar making it instantly recognisable. Far from directly revealing the pain he was going through at the time in any obvious way, the music itself is upbeat and rocking, interchanging its subtle layers of understated poignancy and charming eccentricity (often simultaneously). A strange blend that was uniquely his own, yet far from feeling forced and contrived, it comes across as natural, genuine and multifaceted as Dave Johnson himself was. The final piece is a powerful rearrangement of the themes he established over a decade earlier for Shapeshifter's eponymous song.

CD copies of Octoeight were given to friends who attended his funeral.

Dave had no interest in money and in both his music and his paintings he created for nothing more and nothing less than the pure desire to create. In concordance with the wishes of his widow Christine, all proceeds from the online sale of his music will be donated to LOROS, the charity who did everything they could to make his final months as bearable as possible.
